RAMEN FEVER HITS CHICAGO

Get ready Chicago — ramen fever has hit. After invading New York’s dining scene, this wildly-popular Japanese pop-culture mainstay has arrived Chicago with the opening of  Strings Ramen Shop the city’s first, and only, dedicated Ramen shop. Hot on its heels comes the scheduled late spring/summer openings of two more Ramen shops, by big names like Sodikoff and Melman.

While a sprinkling of Chicago restaurants have added  ramen to their menus alongside other options,  Strings is the first — and only — establishment in Chicago to fully embrace the emerging, red-hot ramen trend.  Complete with its own  imported, automated Japanese noodle maker, Strings  cranks out thin, ribbony strings of fresh, in-house-made ramen noodles throughout the day…and long into the night, with a weeknight closing time of Midnight, 2 a.m. on weekends.

Strings’ menu focuses on the four main styles of ramen: Shio, Tonkotsu, Shoyu, and Miso, each topped with options including sliced duck breast, snow crab,  Kurobuta (aka Berkshire pork), scallops, slow-cooked shredded turkey and more.

The 42-seat, BYOB Strings Ramen Shop is open Sunday-Thur 11 a.m. to Midnight. Fri-Sat11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Strings Ramen Shop, 2141 South Archer, Chicago.
